Animation RAFTS: Create an advertisement for a thaumatrope convincing parents to buy one for their kids. The class generated a word bank for some good describing words: cheap, spinning, entertaining, optical illusion, magic. Students were instructed to explain why and how it works.
Discussion Techniques
Animation: Compare and Contrast two forms of animation (flipstick and thaumatrope).
Art 7: Plastic Bag Sculptures: Exploring a new material to make a 3-Dimensional art piece. Students reflected on their process from the previous and in their sketchbooks and then were prepared to share with the whole group. "How can you make your sculpture look more realistic? How will the plastic bags help you achieve your texture?
Student Engagement and Participation: Summary Ball
Graphic Design Students reviewed important tools with adobe illustrator through a summary ball game at the beginning of class. The teacher asked each student a question regarding a tool, students never knew who was going to catch the ball so they all needed to know the answer.

Name of the picture frame looking box next to the "fill box"? describe type on a path. what does the preview box do? how do i apply an effect? how do i copy something (name two ways)? group a bunch of shapes and text together? rotate a shape? Add an anchor point? what is an anchor point? how do i change an anchor point?" |

After students completed their plastic bag investigations they reflected on discoveries that were made.
"With what you have discovered: What type of living organism lends itself to being sculpted from a plastic bag? Why/How?
Answers were sorted and then the best responses were selected to form student groups from. The author of the response card acted as group leader and was able to justify why the sculpture should be made using the bags.
