Questions to Reflect and Deepen Content Understanding

Selfie Project: Graphic Design
"Look through your photo gallery on your phone and take note of any common poses, mannerisms, body language, or facial expressions that you are repeating.  What do they have in common? How do you portray yourself? When you are taking your "self portrait" what are you communicating to the world?"

How will the plastic bags help you achieve your texture?

Student Engagement and Participation: Summary Ball

Graphic Design Students reviewed important tools with adobe illustrator through a summary ball game at the beginning of class. The teacher asked each student a question regarding a tool, students never knew who was going to catch the ball so they all needed to know the answer.

Use of Student Responses to form Groups: 7th Grade Sculpture

After students completed their plastic bag investigations they reflected on discoveries that were made.

"With what you have discovered: What type of living organism lends itself to being sculpted from a plastic bag? Why/How?

Answers were sorted and then the best responses were selected to form student groups from.  The author of the response card acted as group leader and was able to justify why the sculpture should be made using the bags.

Notes on a Question: What is Graphic Design? Visual Journaling

Design a page in your journal to showcase what graphic design is.  Deconstruct the article. You are the "user", how can you best display the information so that it is meaningful to you and you will remember and understand it?

Questions that involve reflection on self: Photography

"Reflect on your 8 week photography journey. How have you personally grown through the study of photography? Has your journey shaped the way that you look at your surroundings? Identify how your sense of place, the way you see your community and feel a connection to it, has been altered during this class."
