“Memory” Art Show 2023

6/3/2023

Memory was explored as a big idea throughout the school year. Students focused on ways to visually highlight small moments of importance and used their memories to connect with others. Thinking about memory through smells, sounds, objects and images was a springboard into personal narrative writing and authentic art making. Students navigated art techniques and concepts while continuing to reflect on the idea of memory as a lived experience.

"Collections" Art Show 2022

What do the objects we keep say about what we value?  What are the objects that define us as a school?

Welcome to our school-wide art show! This year we focused on collection as a big idea throughout the visual arts curriculum. Going back to the basic idea of collecting, arranging, and fitting together connected us with the root of the word “art” (we begin by collecting). Over the last two school years we have been forced to isolate, spread out, not share, etc. We lost the ability to make quick connections with each other. “Collections” as a means for discovering the similarities in interests, values, and passions has allowed students to engage in conversations with each other and investigate the objects they care about in a physical way.

Places and Spaces Art Show

8/27/2020

It's already been a year since our big show! The big idea of our art show investigated the personal spaces and shared places that we inhabit. We explored the idea of place throughout the school year, beginning with a school-wide collaborative quilt project during the first week of school. This quilt was a jumping point for the theme, informing us of where we like to spend the most time and what we have in common. Multiple approaches were taken to help students take ownership of their art and make connections to increase their sense of place.

We used art to identify important public places, learn about the history of our geographic location, solve problems to improve existing spaces, connect with each other, and celebrate the places and spaces in the city we call home.
